I have a couple of questions for those of you out there who have been successful in getting the front axle of your JD 4X00s replaced with the new axle. Is the replacement something that is covered by Deere or does the dealer have to eat part or all of the replacement? What other parts are replaced besides the front axle? How long did it take to get the parts? How long did it take to do the swap? How is your tractor set up (tires/mower)? I'm trying to figure out how much resistance I will get from my dealer when I approach him about replacing the front axle on my 4300 4x4 w/R4s. I ordered it in October and picked it up in mid January. Unfortunately, it shipped with the old axle. I thought I would wait and see just how bad it tore up the turf before I tried to get it replaced - its bad. Among other things, I use it to maintain some baseball/softball fields and it is shredding the outfields! Thanks in advance for your input. Steve

Steve, while I don't own one of these tractors, I was a machinery dealer for awhile and can talk to the question generally. These types of warranty costs are always picked up by the factory - which also reimburses the dealer for his mechanic's time at a set (low)flat rate. Sometimes there are dealer bonuses for shops that have under a critical number of warranty claims, but in general I think that you will find that the dealer will be happy to make the swap. It probably doesn't cost him a dime, his mechanic is already used to starvation wages, and he knows that he is getting the type of local advertising that he couldn't buy with money. ....
